Throughout time, the martial arts have been passed on in an endless array of flowing channels. Martial arts passed from family member to family member, master to disciple, instructor to student and so on. Its benefits are limitless, limited only by the boundaries we put on them. However, over time the true benefits of the martial arts have become endangered. Martial arts is a way of life. It is living life with a sincere and serious attitude.
The physical side of forms and techniques have become the forefront of martial arts training. The physical aspects of the martial arts are a valuable tool, but it is the mental aspects that are the foundation. Mental aspects include consideration, courtesy, a positive attitude, respect, confidence, concentration, good judgment, morality, integrity, modesty, purity, and wisdom. It is characteristics like these that are the true benefits of the martial arts. Power in the martial arts is not the number of techniques in a style or the dominance of one style over another. Martial arts power is harmony and balance. It is being a humble person, who strives to improve the overall quality of life.
It is the goal of The National Commission of Traditional Martial Arts & The National Commission for Certification of Traditional Martial Arts to spread the true benefits of the martial arts to all people. The greatest benefits are not the ones that are most easily recognized, nor are they the ones easily realized. The benefits of martial arts are priceless. They are a treasure that we should all work to develop and maintain. Change is inevitable. However, the true benefits of the martial arts remain. It is the purpose of these organizations to promote these benefits to all people and preserve the true spirit of the martial arts.
